Since 1953, Rohm and Haas has been one of the leading raw material suppliers of binders and additives to paint manufacturers. Binders actually hold the paint together, and they help form a dry paint film that exhibits desirable characteristics such as durability, stain resistance and washability. 

The Paint Quality Institute's goal is to provide information on the virtues of quality paint through a variety of vehicles, including television appearances, newspaper and magazine articles, and instructional literature.

From technical aspects to decorative techniques, PQI has provided information on every aspect of paint and painting. Over the past ten years, the Paint Quality Institute has authored over 10,000 newspaper and magazine articles and appeared on hundreds of television programs, including This Old House and CBS This Morning. In addition, PQI has created an industry training program, which won a quality award and is now being used internationally. PQI spokespeople also frequently hold seminars on various paint topics and are asked to speak to industry trade groups.

Studies performed by the Paint Quality Institute show that consumers, contractors and specifiers would like to learn more about paint; especially the benefits of top quality paint. Many have fallen victim to purchasing a lesser quality product based solely on lower selling price, and come away dissatisfied with its performance. Studies show that top quality acrylic latex paint lasts longer than ordinary paint since it provides better adhesion, durability and stain resistance. BACKGROUND INFORMATION  ON MICHAEL BERESFORD

Michael BERESFORD is PQI Manager for the Asia - Pacific region, and brings to this position over 20 years of experience in the paint industry in Australia and internationally. This has included product research and development, marketing management in architectural coatings, and federal chairmanship of the technical education industry committee in Australia for the past 10 years. Today, in his PQI role, Mike manages the development of the PQI program across the region, building upon the educational literature, training and website activities operating in China, Australia and New Zealand, and increasingly in other Asian countries.
